The Holiday

› Relaxation

Pol Creadh

Tigh Ruaraidh is an ideal place to get away from it all. Tigh Ruaraidh stands on it's own in the tiny township of Lonbain 7 miles north of the main village of Applecross. It is a wonderfully quiet place where you can hear the sound of the sea on the beach below Tigh Ruaraidh and the occasional bleat of a sheep.

› Walking

Liathach in Torridon

Applecross offers walks for all levels of fitness. There are a number of short walks around the Applecross estate that take in the woodlands around Applecross House as well as the river and parts of Applecross bay. Further afield there are walks on the old coast path and walks to deserted villages on the South of the peninsula. For the very active there are the Torridon mountains just an hour away including the Munros Beinn Eighe, Liathach and Beinn Alligin.

› Wildlife

Otter on the shore below Tigh Ruaraidh

Applecross is an ideal place for bird spotting and catching glimpses of some Britains rarest mammals. Otters are a common sight on the beach in front of Tigh Ruaraidh and sometimes even Pine Martens can be spotted. Red Deer are often seen close to the road and for bird spotters there are Buzzards, Eagles and many different species of Sea Birds.

› Eating

The Applecross Inn on Shore Street

Applecross is fortunate in having two places to dine out; the Applecross Inn and the Potting Shed Restaurant. The Applecross Inn is renowned for its fresh sea-food and has become a popular destination for tourists in Wester Ross. The Potting Shed is a newer addition to Applecross; situated in the old walled garden of Applecross House it serves food in a bistro setting and has already won several awards.
